This rewarding collection contains many contemporary masters as well as lesser-known writers. Extraordinary narrators enhance the listening experience. The always-talented Brian Nishii gets the anthology going with his spirited reading of Murakami’s ironic “Super-Frog Saves Tokyo.” With her melodic voice, Gisela Chípe’s performance of the unforgettable “Offside” by Mexican author Rivera Garza is superb. Actress Marie Françoise Theodore gets the tone and tempo just right in Danticat’s powerful “Night Women.” Among many witty stories, “Squatting” by Diao Dou is delivered with the right mix of irony, earnestness, and wit by Eddy Lee.
