Driftwood is a place where worlds come to die. Christina Delaine narrates this audiobook, which is framed as a memorial to a person called Last--the last living being from his world. Each tale offers a different world's remembrance of how Last interacted with it--some view him as a sort of savior, and others characterize him as more of a con man. The stories are very different from each other, but Delaine ties them all together with a constant and steady demeanor. She relies on soft accents and inflection where there is dialogue. A chapter index would have been a benefit for the audiobook to make it easier to go back and forth to a particular story.

Asimov's sweeping tale of the disintegration and fall of the Galactic Empire has never been more relevant or poignant. In the third book of the original trilogy, Dan Lazar handles the material adequately. He uses his limited range of voices nicely, if sometimes amusingly--he sometimes sounds like a foreigner attempting to mimic American accents. Varying pitch and pacing make for a lively narration, and his reading of a precocious young woman, who is ultimately an important figure, is delightful. Technical and editorial problems plague the title. Hearing Lazar repeatedly mispronounce a word that the text itself explains how to pronounce is very frustrating. Intermittent fade-outs on one channel; inconsistencies when switching sides; and low, rumbling background noise mar the sound quality.

Intermittent fade-outs on one channel; inconsistencies when switching sides; and low, rumbling background noise mar the sound quality.
