Kate Jameson has escaped from Brooklyn and her old gang for the high life of Manhattan. Her new best friend is Elliott Winston and his boyfriend, Brice; together the three Gen-Xers judge everyone based on their views of life. When Kate's childhood friend, Bina, is dumped by her almost fiancé, Kate tries to fix her up with "love- 'em-and-leave-'em" Billy Nolan. But life and love go astray, and Kate herself ends up in love. While this "chick lit" has energy and promise, Bernadette Quigley's gravelly voice makes the women sound loud and the men mundane. Her New York accents are disappointingly caricatured. Stereotypes aside, Kate is in for surprises in her new life.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
