by Piper J. Drake ; read by Cindy Kay ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 11, 2023
Cindy Kay's expressive delivery welcomes the listener to the first installment of the Mythwoven fantasy series, in which fairy-tale and supernatural folk coexist. Hoping to save the next possible victim of the Red Shoes, which cause the wearer to dance themselves to death, vampire Bennet arrives too late. But Peeraphan is able to resist the shoes' deadly magic because she isn't fully human; she's a Thai supernatural being. Kay keeps the story moving through the slow-burn of Bennet and Perraphan's budding romance, as well as the slower pace of the tale itself. Although Kay's performance is enjoyable on its own, the production would have been more dynamic with the addition of another narrator for sections not from Peeraphan's point of view.

Samantha Brentmoor and Robert Hatchet mesmerize and delight in a duet-style narration of this steamy, dark rom-com with the perfect touch of suspense. In this sequel to Tourist Season (2025), Nolan Rhodes continues to dig up more secrets in Cape Carnage and discovers that Harper Starling isn’t who he thought she was. As these two serial killers fall in love, their loyalties are tested, and they question whom they can truly trust. Brentmoor’s light, alluring voice perfectly captures Harper’s quick wit and feisty sass in an expressive, nuanced performance, while Hatchet’s rich timbre poignantly complements Nolan’s conflicted, dominant, and protective demeanor. Together, Brentmoor and Hatchet fashion vibrant and evocative character voices.

Ava Lucas narrates this dark academia romantasy about the daughter of Death. Jo wants to be a normal college student, so she keeps her lineage secret from her friends and her crush. To survive, she must consume lives, but she manages to subsist on her friends’ negative feelings instead. Then she is suddenly named Death’s heir. Lucas’ narration enhances Jo’s cynicism as she navigates political intrigue, deadly spawn, and new allies, including a descendant of Lust. As violence escalates, Lucas intensifies her pace accordingly. And as romance from two suitors pulls Jo in opposite directions, Lucas takes her time letting listeners linger in their passions. She easily differentiates characters, and her male voices are delightfully sensual.
