by Reid Hoffman & Ben Casnocha ; read by Kaleo Griffith ‧ RELEASE DATE: Feb. 14, 2012
The closing comments delivered by the likable authors, one a co-founder of LinkedIn and both entrepreneurs, is a fitting way to cap off this personal lesson on developing authentic career success. It’s an astute guide to effective networking and a well-crafted lesson on staying nimble, creative, and resilient while moving through the stages of our working lives. Humble-sounding narrator Kaleo Griffith performs this timely book with secure optimism and effortless diction. Though he breezes through every phrasing challenge and has an appealing vocal personality, what’s more memorable is how well his performance conveys the authors’ desire to be helpful—not just with strategic advice but with their inspirational message that we all have the potential to do something worthwhile in the world with our talents.

The readers can't compensate for the unbearably pompous prose style of this extended parable about corporate politics and strategy.

This audiobook deals with everything from the historic investments that led to world-dominating companies, such as the Chinese technology company Tencent, to predicting the products and services of the future. An audiobook of such complexity requires a narrator who can handle the task, and David Thorpe manages it admirably. Thorpe uses his masterly voice, which sits somewhere between that of a BBC World Service presenter and an easy, relaxed Home Counties accent, to guide listeners through a sea of numbers, acronyms, and terms such as YP, RPS, and market cap. Rather than simply reading, Thorpe presents the work with excitement and enthusiasm, and this enjoyment transfers to the listener.
