RESOLUTION

Take Parker's hero Spenser, rename him Everett Hitch, and relocate him to the Old West, and you have this tale of vigilante justice in the new town of Resolution. There's plenty of action and snappy dialogue as Hitch and three buddies help the local ranchers hold onto their land and the local ladies of the evening maintain their safety. Titus Welliver has a laidback approach to the narration, which is fine, and his mild characterizations are ok, too. The problem comes in the aforementioned dialogue, which is liberally peppered with attributions. These may be fine in print, but aurally they’re annoying. Otherwise, this is a good story decently read.

      18mm BLUES

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
