Narrator Sol Madariaga beautifully blends Spanish and English in this poignant audiobook about an Argentine-American teenager whose discovery of a magical realm changes her life. Between her unusual eyes and her undocumented status, Manu has always felt like an outsider. It's not until she stumbles across a magical school for the training of werewolves and brujas that she discovers the truth about her family's past and realizes that she's not alone at all. Madariaga's narration is soft and unassuming. Her cadence is sometimes a bit monotonous, but she masterfully voices the many Spanish words and phrases scattered throughout the audiobook. Hearing the Spanish spoken out loud creates a powerful sense of immersion, transporting listeners to a world of magic based on Argentine folklore.

Garcia's pace is breakneck, but listeners can still follow the twins' choices and decisions. The family dynamic involves a new stepfather--someone they're not yet ready to trust. Nonetheless, the twins demonstrate courage as they face both supernatural and family trials. Teens who enjoy fantasy will find much to enjoy in this first installment of the Seasons of Sisterhood trilogy.
