by Ronald Epstein ; read by Jonathan Todd Ross ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 24, 2017
For Dr. Epstein, "attending" has a double meaning--both a chief physician and a mindful, compassionate physician who is present and attuned to a patient's needs. Epstein argues that being mindful improves everyone's quality of life and work satisfaction, no matter the profession. Jonathan Todd Ross's serious narration is authoritative and clear, but it lacks the liveliness to keep the listener focused and, well, attentive, to Epstein's key concepts. It's hard to imagine how a physician in the current fragmented health system could be his or her best professional and personal self, given the constraints of 15-minute appointments and record keeping designed for billing rather than patient care. While there's no question that Epstein's ideal physician is what every patient desires, Ross needed to make this audio experience a little more absorbing.

by Kate Bowler ; read by Kate Bowler ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 7, 2026
Listeners looking to examine joy from a faith-based perspective will find much to reflect on.
In this audiobook, Bowler poses the question, "What is joy?" Narrating her own work, she muses on this theme, discussing finding joy in the ordinary, the role of emotions, recapturing past joy, and the way her faith has shaped her interpretation and experience of joy. Bowler’s narration is down to earth as she talks about her experience battling Stage 4 cancer shortly after her mother's death. She also tackles big ideas about duty and obligation, shared emotion, toxic positivity, how to convert faith into something concretely good, the secret of miracles, and taking risks to achieve joy.
