If it's possible to sing a love song to the land, this audiobook might be it. Rosamund Young narrates a series of sketches and essays about Kite's Nest Farm, her organic farm in England's Cotswold region. There is no overarching narrative beyond a respect for nature, but this approach makes the audiobook ideal for those who can't commit to long periods of listening. Her lyrical style adapts well to audio, and her delivery has a warm charm. The stories include how sheep communicate with herders and how cows communicate with each other. There also are nuggets of advice, such as don't text while milking a cow and remember that summer is all about preparing for winter. Young's earlier work was THE SECRET LIFE OF COWS.

Few people have spent more hours observing wild wolves than the author of this unique nature memoir. Narrator Ryan Shaefer’s steady performance matches the author’s impactful yet emotionally subtle descriptions of wild spaces and the animals that inhabit them. McIntyre explains his decades-long evolution as a storyteller while teaching the public as a park ranger, naturalist, wolf researcher, and author. The audiobook is vivid and exciting when he talks about individual bears and wolves. However, he struggles to craft a compelling narrative out of his own life story. McIntyre ignores his own salient storytelling advice, describing his life chronologically as a list of facts, accomplishments, and job placements.
