Clyde's standout character is kind, ingenious, neurodivergent Gabriel Ward, who's called upon when desiccated body parts appear at the lawyers' doors. Gabriel's unenviable task--well rendered on both sides--is questioning his peers, which elicits little information. Overcoming class differences, humble Constable Wright ably assists Ward in his investigation. Unworldly Gabriel is approached by a dance hall girl, Topsy, when her reputation is ruined by a tabloid. The riveting trial is filled with historical details. Gabriel's conversations with Delphinium, a cat who "adopted" him, are irresistible. The historical mystery and the character of genial Gabriel, delightfully presented by Clyde, combine for a unique listen.

Sanjeev Bhaskar makes wonderful work of this brilliant, funny, and thought-provoking thriller. What happens when you mix those classics of Edwardian fiction, Sherlock Holmes and A.J.
