Ava Lucas narrates this dark academia romantasy about the daughter of Death. Jo wants to be a normal college student, so she keeps her lineage secret from her friends and her crush. To survive, she must consume lives, but she manages to subsist on her friends’ negative feelings instead. Then she is suddenly named Death’s heir. Lucas’ narration enhances Jo’s cynicism as she navigates political intrigue, deadly spawn, and new allies, including a descendant of Lust. As violence escalates, Lucas intensifies her pace accordingly. And as romance from two suitors pulls Jo in opposite directions, Lucas takes her time letting listeners linger in their passions.
