by Sharon McMahon ; read by Sharon McMahon ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 24, 2024
This audiobook profiles unsung heroes of American history, most of whom you wouldn't recognize. Author Sharon McMahon offers a narration that is almost loving in tone as she tells their stories. Her voice is gentle on the ears and easy to follow. Yet she also captures the drama and significance of each life. McMahon primarily uses declarative sentences, which translate well to audio. In addition, she utilizes her background as a teacher to construct the chapters in a logical order. Each story includes historical context that adds meaning to the narrative. For example, in the story about a former enslaved woman who travels to the American West to find the daughter who was taken from her, the author explores the realities of slavery and the Civil War.

by Carol Matthau ; read by Carol Matthau ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
Carol Matthau epitomizes a glamour and lifestyle not associated with the 1990's. Here is a life of privilege, tragedy and worry about what friends would think of her new frock or lover. Matthau possesses a voice and delivery that simply could not be improved on. In her coy whisper, she tells compelling stories involving everyone from William Saroyan (husband #1) and Truman Capote to Carson McCullers, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Walter Matthau (husband #2). This excellent audio presentation will leave you wanting to read the entire book to discover what juicy tidbits were left out.

Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster fought a lifelong battle for credit, recognition, and compensation. Superman gave birth to the superhero genre in 1938 and spawned comics, toys, television, and movies. Dustin Naylor’s narration is both exciting and faithful to the business of comics and contracts. The story involves organized crime and corruption that even Superman would have difficulty fighting. Author Bernhardt focuses mostly on Siegel, but both he and Shuster lived much of their lives in near-poverty, while DC Comics raked in millions for their creation. As the two men entered their golden years, new executives at DC were more appreciative and negotiated a fairer settlement.
