Playing the part of Oliver Finch, McClure speaks with wide-eyed amazement as he's kidnapped by bloodthirsty pirates. Masterfully creating the crooked voices of Capt. Scratch and his band of buccaneers, the narrator gives the audience a seafaring adventure worth listening to. The plot thickens as the narrator reveals the skeletons in Capt. Scratch's closet and the crew's search for treasure guarded by a ghost who won't rest until someone avenges his death. As Oliver travels the open seas, McClure develops his character from that of a naive boy to an experienced, confident sailor. Young listeners hungry for fast-paced adventure will find this program satisfying.

Listeners follow Merry, the longbow girl, one of the best archers in her town. When she finds a magical portal in the forest that takes her back to sixteenth-century Wales, she must use her skills to win an archery contest in order to help her ancestors keep their land. While narrator Emily Wilden brings protagonist Merry to life with a rich Welsh accent, her narration seems uneven at times. All the period characters have accents that reflect the setting of the story and transport listeners to Wales. Listeners who enjoy historical fiction and a bit of fantasy will be charmed by this tale of determination, hope, and family.
