A disorder similar to Asperger’s syndrome renders 12-year-old Ted an unlikely but completely endearing sleuth in this engrossing story. When his cousin disappears at an amusement park, Ted's disability is turned to an advantage as he methodically sets out to find out what happened. With his stilted but appropriately robotic delivery, narrator Alex Kalajzic completely becomes Ted and just as skillfully handles Kat, Ted's brash teenage sister. He skillfully alternates between characters of different ages, accents, and social classes, and is competent with female voices. A compelling story with lots of red herrings combined with Kalajzic’s ability to create vivid characters immerses the listener in this exceptional listening experience.

A sensitive performance.
Deepa is a precocious 12-year-old girl in remission from leukemia. Under the tutelage of her uncle, a house call doctor, she becomes involved in solving teen tennis player Taio's puzzling medical mystery. Deepa is unsure of herself, but she’s ready to get back to middle school after a year away for treatment. Narrator Soneela Nankani depicts Deepa's desire to be more than the "sick kid" while navigating her youthful insecurities and the social challenges of middle school. Nankani also ably portrays Deepa's growing confidence in herself as she uses her own experience with illness to help figure out what’s wrong with Taio.

Jeff Ebner's youthful, enthusiastic voice immediately pulls listeners into this fun-filled summer adventure. Eleven-year-old Felix and his neighbor, Marigold, find a mysterious wooden box that contains a field recorder and a coded message that subsequently sends them on a fantastically sound-filled scavenger hunt. The inclusion of actual sound effects—an ice cream truck’s jingle, a barking dog, bird song, and more—throughout the audiobook enhances the listening experience. The music, the voices, and the clues as Felix and Marigold run all over town are irresistible. The story’s conclusion features an unexpected reconnection.
