A well-known story even among those who are not King fans, CHRISTINE follows the progression of local nerd Arnie Cunningham’s all-consuming love for a run-down 1958 Plymouth Fury. King has a knack for stretching out a story to achieve the highest level of tension, and Holter Graham’s narration certainly grips the listener to the grisly end. He firmly establishes the main players and individualizes even minor characters, truly bringing the novel to life. Graham’s vocal dexterity makes for, quite possibly, the ultimate audio experience. However, this is no brief listen—it’s the book to listen to on an epic journey or perhaps spread over a few dark winter evenings to add to the story’s atmosphere.

      18mm BLUES

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
