King’s coming-of-age story about four boys on the verge of adolescence, searching for a missing neighbor's body, is poignant, heartbreaking, and profound. Actor Wil Wheaton’s youthful tone and casual pacing bring the gang to life with empathy and bittersweet tenderness. Wheaton portrays Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern as they walk along the railway tracks, something that becomes a defining moment in their lives and resonates into adulthood. Adapted into the film Stand by Me, which starred Wheaton, this reflection on life in a dying factory town in Maine during the late 1950s serves as a record of a long-ago time.

A heartfelt classic, well delivered.

      18mm BLUES

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
