Cary Hite expertly narrates Tom Sheridan's unique LP (lyrical prose) novel. Franco, a proud New Jersey resident, works various jobs--longshoreman, cleaner, and bouncer--as he strives to become the MMA (mixed martial arts) world champion. Hite inhabits Franco and is a stellar storyteller, capturing characters of all ages and diverse accents as the story moves between past and present, building up to Franco's fight with "The Prince," a wealthy Middle Easterner. Most moving and authentic are Franco's wife, Julie, and son, TJ, who share his trials and dreams. This rousing tribute to New Jersey and Italian-Americans, with its well-rendered wordplay and rhythmic energy, makes for a high-spirited listening experience. Audio is unbeatable to capture and enjoy this unusual work.

by Gerald A. Browne ; read by Barry Bostwick ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 1993
This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
