Four gifted narrators introduce The Golden Gays, who share a magnificent home in Palm Springs, California in this homage to the 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls. These mature men find solace living and performing together, and the descriptions of what they eat and drink and their monthly drag shows memorably evoke their lives for listeners. Joel Leslie is a standout as flamboyant, bossy Teddy. When his conservative sister and liberal niece show up unexpectedly, their visit creates chaos for their household. Kind and gentle Sid didn’t come out until he was in his 60s, and Art Brown offers a moving portrayal of him, conveying his bravery and pain.

by Gerald A. Browne ; read by Barry Bostwick ‧ RELEASE DATE: Jan. 22, 1993
This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
