While this story of revenge and bloodlust abounds with clichés and stereotypes, it should appeal to an audience looking for action. When Somali pirates hijack her yacht and kidnap and torture her daughter, wealthy Hazel Bannock, owner of Bannock Oil Corporation, turns to macho Hector Cross of Cross Bow Security to intercede. The power of audio is underscored in the graphic violence and rape scenes that become all too vivid. Narrator Rupert Degas superbly portrays a multitude of distinctive male characters, but his female characters are far less successful. Ultimately, they hinder the willing suspension of disbelief already demanded of the listener.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
