During a career that spanned from 1958 to his death in 2013, musician Lou Reed never became a pop star, but he made interesting music and was a New York City icon who knew everybody and lived a fascinating life. Music journalist Will Hermes narrates this history in a pleasing tone with consistent clarity while capturing his subject's moody cynicism. His vocal character works well with his insightful writing about Reed's mental health and drug issues, sexual complexity, and pull-no-punches songwriting. Reed's often arresting observations on the human condition attracted loyal fans and a coterie of celebrities like Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol. With his strong performance and research, as well as his suave storytelling, Hermes holds listeners close for the entire production.

An entertaining memoir by a true all-American of popular culture.
Bradshaw's football career ended in the 1980s, and these days he's probably most widely known for his ubiquitous cultural presence in movies, commercials, and reality television. Bradshaw takes a long and detailed look back at his consequential life decisions. He's a gifted narrator and storyteller, the kind of guy who can instantly build rapport with his audience. It's no surprise this audiobook is entertaining and occasionally moving. As Bradshaw reflects on the characters he's played over the years, essentially simple variations of himself, his voice reflects a self-effacing humility. Bradshaw has been able to build his extended second career with this warm approachability.

Throughout this solid performance, listeners will hear both pain and steadfastness.
This is a different take on the celebrity memoir. Lundgren, the Swede best known as Russian fighting behemoth Drago in Rocky IV, offers a straightforward, unadorned, and candid text with a workmanlike narration that suits his firsthand reflections. The perspectives of male members of his entourage, such as his managers and trainers, are voiced with great skill and variety by Rick Adamson, while personal reflections from women are voiced by the equally skilled Nan McNamara. Lundgren has suffered multiple bouts of cancer, and his memoir goes beyond karate belts and film performances to focus on his health battles. Now an American citizen, Lundgren shares his love for his adopted country.
