Haunting and unforgettable.
Perdita Weeks captures all the complexity, heartbreak, and madness of Hamlet in this queer retelling set in Victorian England. After the death of her needy mother, Odette’s household is taken over by her cruel aunt Claudine, who quickly marries Odette’s father and pushes Odette out. Odette begins seeing her mother’s ghost around the manor, sending her into a psychological spiral that threatens the thing she loves most: her romantic relationship with her best friend, Cecilia. Odette and Cecilia must grow up fast, face new challenges, and hopefully come back together amid secrets and danger. Weeks’ outstanding performance perfectly complements Dunn’s writing style; both exude emotion, depth, and feminist unruliness.

Not one narrator fails to engage, but a standout is Monique Mojica (Guna and Rappahannock nations), who voices "The Corpse Room," by Debra Magpie Earling (Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes), set at a mission-run boarding school. A survivor speaking from decades’ distance, she recollects the unholy goings-on with ferocious immediacy.
