John Thomas Tuft grew up around Pittsburgh and the surrounding area with its bridges, towns and landscapes are the setting for The Healer. After his career as a minister, mental health counselor and newspaper columnist was brought up short by a car accident and subsequent complications from multiple surgeries, he turned to writing novels. The first, Even the Darkness, was published in 1994, and led to his being commissioned to write a screenplay in 1998 about the genocide in Rwanda, While God Was Sleeping, with assistance from Mike Farrell. Another accident threatened to derail him further. He lived for two years in facilities for the victims of dementia and stroke. The Healer marks his return to novels, and it has received the highest possible scores in reviews by Online Bookclub, and Readers Favorites. During the pandemic, he completed the sequel, The Healing, which received high praise from Kirkus Reviews in 2022. He is currently at work on the next in the series, The Nightcrosser.
