Selecting more than a dozen of this much-imitated illustrator's charming, still-vibrant paintings, Ashton fashions appropriately traditional-sounding verse to link the art with the numbers from 1 to 10. Well done: a pleasant way to revisit an old favorite, but too bad that the pictures' original contexts go unnoted. (Picture book. 3-8)
