GREEN EARRINGS AND A FELT HAT by Jerry Newman
CHILDREN'S
Released: April 30, 1993

"Send kids who enjoy this on to Patricia Wrightson's slightly more demanding, and subtler, The Sugar-Gum Tree (1992). (Young reader. 5-9)"

There's a silly fight, depicted in succinct, believable dialogue; the fear of each that the other will find a new friend; reluctance to apologize; then a happy resolution when—after ``Susan had decided that she liked Carolyn more than she was mad at her''—each wraps the other's favorite thing as a gift and they literally meet halfway.
