With quiet reverence for the magic of the night, a mother tells the story of a man and woman who sought lodgings in a stable and were blessed during the cold wintry night with a newborn child. Attracted by the bright star shining over the stable, the shepherds gather in own mother and child. The religious symbols are not mentioned but the spirit of the Christmas story is admirably retained in Harald Wiberg's luminous color wash illustrations and in Astrid Lindgren's gentle style. A fine introduction to the meaning of Christmas for the child who, like the one here pictured, nestles in mother's lap to discover it.
