KIRKUS REVIEW

A prima donna goose who practically defines pomposity gets a glimmering that her entourage of one—her sister—may well be indispensable to her success. The Gaggle Sisters are launching their river tour, for which Sadie will sing and Dorothy will accompany on accordion. While Sadie makes sure she gets her beauty rest and has time for Deep Thoughts, Dorothy will pack the raft, paint the backdrop, and minister to Her Holiness. When small problems arise and Sadie throws one of her hissy fits, Dorothy will find ingenious solutions while maintaining an abiding sense of humor (well, nearly limitless). Sadie will take the credit. And when Sadie’s coveted “Green Beret of Much Loveliness and High Degree of Style” gets dunked in the drink, becoming “A Green Beret of Much Wetness and High Degree of Sogginess,” nearly ruining everything, everything, everything for Sadie, it’s Dorothy who concocts an artful solution to the problem. The kooky, droll watercolors are a decided plus, but it is the dryly humorous, theatrical text that keeps the story going strong to the end, as readers applaud Dorothy’s saintly patience and try to figure a way to reach into the pages to strangle Sadie. (Picture book. 4-6)
