The popular teething toy gets another new board book.
Sophie the giraffe seems to be every tiny tot's favorite chew toy of the moment, so of course she’s moved in to board books. This simple pull-tab book features Sophie and her friends as they look for mouse Josephine. Each turn of the page reveals a new setting and a new tab to pull and reveal one of Sophie's hidden friends. Gabin the teddy bear is behind the couch, Margot the turtle is behind the toy box, and so on. The book isn't a particularly engaging read, though the tab engineering is smooth. The palette is a brand-approved soft pastel, and the compositions are on the busy side for the presumed audience. This is a board book for the earliest of readers, particularly those who enjoy Sophie's soothing presence. As a piece of branding it's totally acceptable, but don't be surprised if little readers end up using it as a chew toy as well.
An uninspired riff that boasts nothing more than a popular figure. (Board book. 6 mos.-1)
