KIRKUS REVIEW

Muddling through the challenges of their young lives, Winnie the possum and Ernst the otter complement each other in a gentle, understated manner. Whether searching for a lost present, putting their heads together to create Winnie and Ernst’s Famous Nut Loaf, or facing the bad luck of a broken mirror, these two friends find joy in life and each other. Dainty watercolor illustrations add to the fun. During Winnie’s spring celebration, which is almost ruined by an unexpected blizzard, the badgers dress like movie stars and the rest of their friends, even the toothless turtle, sport Hawaiian shirts and stylish glasses. A pleasing, easy-to-follow layout and generous typeface make this perfect for readers who are ready for the next challenge after Henry and Mudge. These two will join George and Martha in the ranks of fine literary friendships. (Fiction. 5-8)
