KIRKUS REVIEW

Impulsive everyduckling Daisy gets into and out of another pickle. As she and little cousin Pip can’t play quietly, their mothers take them out onto the crowded duck pond, where noise won’t matter. Then pieces of bread start hitting the water, and suddenly Daisy and Pip are cut off from their mamas by excited stampedes of adult ducks. What to do? Daisy takes a deep breath and quacks out “MAMMA” in such stentorian tones that the whole pond is momentarily silenced, and a happy reunion ensues. Whether the focus zooms in for a page-filling close-up, or retreats so that Daisy and her cousin look like they’re about to be lost amidst a multicolored rush of bigger quackers, her bright yellow down and oversized, lambently orange beak make her a standout, even for very young eyes. And, as usual, her experience is sure to be in the repertory of nearly every adventuresome toddler and post toddler. (Picture book. 3-5)
