KIRKUS REVIEW

Poor Mabel: having discovered the hard way that even fairies have to brush and floss, she sets out to assemble a new set of choppers from children’s castoffs. Unfortunately, no matter how she puts the gathered teeth together, the fit is never quite right. What to do? Despite a smile punctuated by three rather gray teeth, Mabel, with her blue skin, green hair, and pink wings, cuts a stylish figure in Davis’s simply drawn cartoons. But her gummy grin makes her a social outcast until she takes a break at the Wikiwikiwacky Seaside Resort, and meets Les Payne, DDS, a soulmate with kindred interests in gingivitis, halitosis, and “talking plaque.” It’s the beginning of a beautiful friendship; soon flashing a gleaming new dental installation, Mabel keeps her important and enjoyable night job, while working days with Les, who gives her “comprehensive dental coverage and really nice floss.” Sandwiched between endpaper galleries of celebrity teeth, this sidesplitting dental romance will have young readers showing their own pearly whites in laughter.
