KIRKUS REVIEW

A native of Trieste, Italy, creates expressive figures from the 26 letters, adding human personas and appendages and assigning each an action directed at the next (``E enchants F. F follows G.''). Letters are composed of fabric-like swatches or materials suggesting the character (``L,'' who lassoes, is made of rope; ``M marries'' in pinstripes); but their personalities are rarely suggested by the letters' shapes (although ``C cuddles''). Borders of the letters in script, appropriate for the age level that will most enjoy these rather sophisticated portrayals, make a nice touch. A witty and engaging children's book debut. (Picture book. 5-8)
