THE CARROT WAR by Philip Ross Norman

Trojan Horse, bunny-style: the Horrible Hares steal the rabbits' entire carrot supply just before the big Midsummer Feast. Inspired by little Bunlet, the rabbits hide in a huge fake carrot, invade the hares' stronghold, and retrieve their vegetables. No moral here--not even an end to the bunnies' problem with the hares--just happy-go-lucky war games and good fun for all. Meanwhile, in his first venture into children's books, Norman tells his tale with lively enthusiasm and illustrates with commendable skill, including lots of imaginative details of bunny life. Better plot next time? (Picture book. 4-8)
