KIRKUS REVIEW

An addition to the ``People and Places of the World'' series acquaints youngsters with the varied people of this vast land. Stefoff has an impressive command of the facts, organizing them into smooth chapters on history, economy, culture, and government. The density of detail makes for strenuous (if rewarding) reading for those at the younger end of the age range, but the b&w photos and a full-color middle section should keep them involved. Chronology; map; pronunciation guide; glossary; index. (Nonfiction. 11+)
