KIRKUS REVIEW

Emile is an octopus with a civic conscience and a great facility for doing good, thanks to his ample supply of appendages. Emile is superb as a life guard, brilliant as a nautical detective, charming as a dinner guest, and formidable as a chess opponent. Written and illustrated by the author of Crictor, Emile combines humor with fantasy and adventure. Tomi Ungerer's green hero is at once comical and deeply evocative of the life beneath the sea.
