Andy Weir is preparing to take science fiction fans on a new adventure, Variety reports.
The novelist is executive producing an original audiobook, Exoplanet, written by Benjamin Percy, for Audible. The audiobook service calls the project “a propulsive, emotionally charged sci-fi thriller, perfect for fans of Project Hail Mary, Red Rising, The Expanse [series], and Dark Matter.”
Weir first rose to literary fame with his novel The Martian, which he initially published serially on his blog; Crown released the book in print in 2014. He followed that up with two other bestsellers, Artemisand Project Hail Mary. Percy, a prolific comic book writer, is known for his novels including The Dead Lands, The Dark Net, and The Ninth Metal.
Exoplanet will follow the crew members of Wild Blue Yonder, a starship that is destroyed by an anomaly; each person lands on the same planet, but in different eras. They are forced to find a way to communicate despite being in disparate times.
The cast of the audiobook includes Anthony Mackie (8 Mile, The Hurt Locker), Ray Porter (who narrated the Project Hail Mary audiobook), Ariana DeBose (West Side Story, Tow), and John Leguizamo (Romeo + Juliet, The Odyssey).
Weir said in a statement, “I’m obsessed with problems, the kind where one person and a lot of math are all that stand between survival and disaster. Benjamin Percy’s writing in Exoplanet takes that and adds a twist that genuinely kept me up at night: What if the people trying to save each other were separated not by distance, but by centuries? You can’t see that story. You have to hear it.”
Exoplanet is slated for release on Nov. 5.
