David E. Kelley has yet another literary adaptation on the horizon.

The writer and producer is developing a series adaptation of Michael Connelly’s Nightshade, Deadline reports.

Connelly’s novel, published in 2025 by Little, Brown, follows Stilwell, a Los Angeles County police detective who is transferred to sleepy Catalina Island and starts investigating the case of a Jane Doe found dead in the island’s harbor. Connelly brought back Stilwell in the novel Ironwood, published last month.

Kelley, known for creating shows including Chicago Hope, Ally McBeal, and Big Little Lies, will write and executive-produce the series, titled Welcome to Catalina, for HBO Max. Connelly will also serve as an executive producer.

Kelley created the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer, based on Connelly’s novels featuring character Mickey Haller; the show has run for four seasons, with a fifth in the works.

Kelley also has series based on Tom Wolfe’s The Bonfire of the Vanities and Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar novels in development. His series adaptation of Rupi Thorpe’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles, which streams on Apple TV, has also been renewed for a second season.
