Lambda Literary is celebrating its pride with a series of virtual events spotlighting LGBTQ+ writers and entertainers throughout the month.

The literary organization will host several online readings and conversations during Pride Month, the group said in a news release.

“Between the inequities wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic and the systemic violence against Black people, the need for informed commentary, deep empathy, and protest has taken on an even starker urgency,” the group said. “Historically, LGBTQ writers have deftly addressed moments like these by giving us writing filled with inspiration, anger, humanity—and joy, because every revolution is bereft without it.”

The series kicks off on June 4 with actor Wilson Cruz reading from and discussing James Baldwin’s classic The Fire Next Time. On June 9, the group will present a conversation between authors Samantha Irby (Wow, No Thank You.) and Glennon Doyle (Untamed).

Authors Kristen Arnett (Mostly Dead Things) and T Kira Madden (Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls) will hold a conversation on June 18, and comedian Nicole Byer will read from her forthcoming book #VERYFAT #VERYBRAVE on June 23.

The series culminates on June 30 with a pre-recorded conversation between actress Lily Tomlin; her wife, comedy writer Jane Wagner; and journalist and essayist Hilton Als.

Tickets to the events are available on a pay-as-you-wish basis on Lambda Literary’s website. The group is asking for suggested donations of $10–$100.
