Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino will tackle film history in a new book coming later this year, IndieWire reports.
Harper will publish the Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained director’s Cinema Speculation this fall. The publisher describes the book as “a deliriously entertaining, wickedly intelligent cinema book as unique and creative as anything by Quentin Tarantino.”
It will be the second book by Tarantino. His first, a novelization of his 2019 film, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, was published last year; it became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller upon its release.
In a description of the book, Harper notes that Tarantino has said in the past that he wanted to pivot from filmmaking to writing books about movies, and that his next movie, as yet unannounced, would be his last.
“Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining,” Harper says. “At once film criticism, film theory, a feat of reporting, and wonderful personal history, it is all written in the singular voice recognizable immediately as QT’s and with the rare perspective about cinema possible only from one of the greatest practitioners of the artform ever.”
Cinema Speculation is slated for publication on Oct. 25.
