Reese Witherspoon has selected Emma Brodie’s Into the Blue as the latest pick for her popular book club.
Brodie’s novel, published Tuesday by Thousand Voices/Ballantine, follows AJ Graves, an aspiring comedian and video store employee who forms a friendship with Noah Drew, an actor; the two reconnect years later when they are both cast in the same television series. A critic for Kirkus wrote of the book, “The acting and improv worlds provide fertile ground that allows Brodie to explore ambition, talent, passion, and the life-changing power of art. An ambitious, sweeping, and tragic love story.”
Witherspoon announced her pick on Instagram, writing, “Into The Blue by Emma Brodie is a story that really stayed with me - about love, timing, and what happens when the past finds its way back into your life. I was so drawn to the way it explores fate versus choice.”
Brodie’s novel is published by Jenna Bush Hager’s Thousand Voices imprint, and the author stopped by the Today show to discuss her book. Hager played a video sent in by Witherspoon in which the actor said, “I’m on the set of The Morning Show. Jenna, I just wanted to pop on here to say thank you for sending me this book. Into the Blue is such a great novel. It’s a love story; I just dove right in. I loved every page. I think readers are going to just love it, and that’s why I picked it for Reese’s Book Club.”
