British royal watchers can’t stop talking about a new book that depicts Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, in an unflattering light.
Tom Bower’s Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors was published Thursday in the U.K. by Blink Publishing and contains damning claims about the celebrity couple.
According to Page Six, Bower writes that Meghan demanded she be compared to Princess Diana in a statement crafted by Harry’s spokesman. The website also reports Bower’s claim that Meghan brought Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, to tears during a fight over how the bridesmaids at Meghan and Harry’s wedding should be dressed.
A critic for the British newspaper the Times says the book “depicts Meghan as a merciless opportunist who found in Harry the perfect vehicle for personal advancement, and in doing so caused irreversible damage to a thousand-year-old monarchy. It’s an undeniably gripping read, but it’s also brutal and ultimately sad.”
Bower seems open about his distaste for the couple, telling Piers Morgan that his book “may hasten the [Sussexes’] downward trend, over which I wouldn’t be sad at all because they pose a real threat to the royal family,” according to Newsweek.
Revenge isn’t being published in the U.S.—at least not yet—but Harry will get a chance to tell his side of the story when his much-anticipated memoir is published by Penguin Random House. The book was previously announced with a publication date in late 2022, but the publisher hasn’t released any updates about the book, leading to speculation that it might be delayed.
