An entertaining, humorous romantasy debut.
Lady Hilde Croft has a secret gift—a Charm that, if discovered, is punishable by banishment and certain death. After Lord Elmwood uses his own forbidden Charm to raise the dead on a battlefield, he escapes to a forgotten country estate. Hilde needs Elmwood's magic to save her deceased husband’s manor from the clutches of his brutal brother. Justin Avoth’s experience as a narrator is apparent through his pacing and intonation as he delivers the story from Elmwood’s perspective. While she is equally pleasing to the ear as she captures Hilde’s pragmatic nature, the quick pace of Ebony Jonelle’s performance may have listeners checking the playback speed.

This highly satisfying quest brims with humor and friendship courtesy of Church.
During a magical adventure set in a traveling bookshop, narrator Imogen Church ensures that each conversation is a dramatic experience. Listeners meet failed book witch Louella Twig, whose strident tones mask her loneliness. She encounters former thief Everett Sharp who, intrigued, parries Louella's defenses with his deep, rolling voice. When Louella's former mentor, Feralorn, asks for her help finding pages from his grimoire, Louella accepts the quest. Church's voice for Feralorn is that of a creaky trumpet—highly distinctive, occasionally overwhelming. Church gives each character their own voice and mannerisms, including gnomes and a European wizard. Pacing, phrasing, and inflection are deployed skillfully to denote emotion, especially between Louella and Everett.

Listeners will devour this audiobook.
Three narrators delight in this sultry paranormal romance. Birdie, a doctoral student, accepts a last-minute research fellowship on Burr Island, where her best friend pushes her into a job with her reluctant uncle, Jasper, portrayed by Gregory Salinas. Everything seems great on the island until Jasper, secretly the high priest of a witch coven, is attacked by a mysterious hooded figure, a wraith named Dáinn. When Birdie stops the attack, the three characters become intertwined in witchy history, mystery, and a heated polyamorous romance. Megan Wicks is a true standout, capturing Birdie's wit and understanding with her perfect tones. Shane East is perfect as Dáinn, and listeners will hear the yearning in his voice.
