THE GOOD SON

Vivienne Leheny's narration delivers the intense feelings of Thea Demetriou, who has just brought her 21-year-old son, Stefan, home from prison. Leheny captures Thea's terrible mix of mother love and disbelieving shock that her son, in a drugged stupor, apparently murdered his girlfriend. Leheny depicts Thea's conflicting feelings of shame at what he did and pride in his creation of the Healing Project, a venture aimed at helping perpetrators make amends. Her frustration turns to anger and sometimes fear at constant protestors, a mysterious caller, and a hooded figure who torments her family. In addition, she is experiencing a niggling feeling that things just don't add up. Leheny's dramatization enhances the emotional power of this gripping story.

He presents a tale of growing up and growing old which is bittersweet and funny. Narrator Ivey uses a slight east Texas accent which authenticates the setting of the story. Each character's voice has a slightly different inflection to differentiate it. It all works together well. As you listen, you feel as if you might actually be in Houston sharing the lives of these resilient and refreshing people.

      THE GATE OF ANGELS

To Fred Fairly, a Cambridge Fellow, truth is everything. What then is the truth about the woman he finds beside him when he awakens? English conventions and mores of 1912 Cambridge are central to this period piece. Callow's wonderful voice and interpretation make accents, personalities and gender come alive, and help make sense of the frequent time and character shifts. His delivery enhances a most clever "choose your own ending."
