The four members of the family are soon caught up in a "he said/she said" situation revolving around the high school principal's shocking proposition of Hazel, a senior, on her first day of school, and a campus controversy that develops when the father, Gus, a professor, uses Bill Cosby as an example in his class. Galvin smoothly shifts among the perspectives of the family members, illuminating their anxieties and differing approaches to these dilemmas, as well as their adaptations to living in a new place. Galvin's perceptive narrative style, multidimensional character portrayals, and propulsive pacing create an insightful listen.

In this sequel to Terms of Endearment, Larry McMurtry brings back Aurora Greenway, who is now dealing with her various lovers and friends plus three grown grandchildren with a variety of problems. He presents a tale of growing up and growing old which is bittersweet and funny. Narrator Ivey uses a slight east Texas accent which authenticates the setting of the story. Each character's voice has a slightly different inflection to differentiate it. It all works together well. As you listen, you feel as if you might actually be in Houston sharing the lives of these resilient and refreshing people.
