by Jillian Cantor ; read by Allyson Ryan ‧ RELEASE DATE: Nov. 28, 2023
In this suspenseful listen inspired by Daphne du Maurier's REBECCA, narrator Allyson Ryan imparts a creeping sense of disquiet that will pull listeners in. Olivia, whose writing career is stalled, agrees to work as a "writer for hire" for billionaire Ash, who wants to publish a book asserting that du Maurier stole his grandmother Amelia's story for REBECCA. Olivia flies to Los Angeles to work with Ash and soon finds herself living in his guest quarters. Ryan wonderfully expresses Olivia's growing unease as she finds herself doubting her observations and thoughts. Ryan splendidly conveys Ash's enigmatic persona and ably portrays the supporting characters, including Olivia's Los Angeles- based college friend and possible love interest, Noah, and Ash's mysterious housekeeper, Clara. Fans of psychological suspense will enjoy this audiobook.

To Fred Fairly, a Cambridge Fellow, truth is everything. What then is the truth about the woman he finds beside him when he awakens? English conventions and mores of 1912 Cambridge are central to this period piece. Callow's wonderful voice and interpretation make accents, personalities and gender come alive, and help make sense of the frequent time and character shifts. His delivery enhances a most clever "choose your own ending."
