Narrators CJ Bloom and Xe Sands deliver a fantastic dual performance of a unique story told from two perspectives. Lillie becomes a jaded empty nester after her husband leaves her for another woman and she is left to her own devices to figure out what's next in her life. Interestingly, the novel's other perspective follows the other woman, Melissa, who is doing everything she can to maintain the self-disciplined lifestyle of a businesswoman. Despite their different approaches, both narrators ultimately depict two exhausted women who are searching for relief and meaning in their lives: Lillie, jaded from a pending divorce and lonely household, and Melissa, struggling to remain afloat in a fast-paced world.

In this sequel to Terms of Endearment, Larry McMurtry brings back Aurora Greenway, who is now dealing with her various lovers and friends plus three grown grandchildren with a variety of problems. He presents a tale of growing up and growing old which is bittersweet and funny. Narrator Ivey uses a slight east Texas accent which authenticates the setting of the story. Each character's voice has a slightly different inflection to differentiate it. It all works together well. As you listen, you feel as if you might actually be in Houston sharing the lives of these resilient and refreshing people.
