Robert Bathurst lends his polished, dulcet tones to this landmark novel in Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey series—the story that introduces the love of his life, Harriet Vane. Bathurst deals confidently with Sayers’ elegant prose and handles the various male and female and upper- and lower-class voices with aplomb. The pace is perfect, and in Bathurst’s portrayal, Wimsey emerges as dashingly charming and smart. The plot is gripping—can Sir Peter rescue poor Harriet from the hangman’s noose, racing against the clock? And can he win her love, as well as her gratitude? On that last point, only time will tell.

A perfect treasury of classic verse read by a true artist, this is a collection to cherish.
Listening to the full set of Shakespeare’s sublime sonnets, read in the glorious, mellow tones of the great Shakespearian actor Patrick Stewart, is a treat. Begun as a podcast during lockdown, the idea to immortalize 83-year-old Stewart’s renditions of these poems, interspersed with his reflections on his own dramatic process and his relationship with the bard, including his time with the Royal Shakespeare Company, is genius. Listen to them, as he suggests, just a few at a time, perhaps while following along with the text. All the sonnets, whether familiar or more obscure, are beautifully delivered by an actor with a passion for his work.
