THE BOXER AND THE SPY, the second juvenile fiction title by veteran mystery novelist Parker, taps into many of the first-time feelings experienced by adolescents trying to find out who they are. Narrator Scott Brick plays each part with an emotional gravity that forces listeners to care and root for the characters. The shy, poetic boy's death by suicide just doesn't feel right to wannabe boxer Terry Novak and his could-be girlfriend, Abby, so they start to dig deeper into the illegal steroids trade in their small town, ruffling feathers and falling in love. Brick matches Parker's perfect pacing and pressure-packed action scenes, proving once again he's a "golden voice" to follow.

This thriller’s tension never lets up thanks to Amoss’ attentive performance.
Listeners unearth a small town’s sordid past. After spending 10 years trying to escape the shadow of her father, infamous serial killer Gabriel Thorn, 17-year-old Ryan Shipley is forced back to Starling, Tennessee. Narrator Sophie Amoss captures Ryan’s guarded, cynical point of view with an uneasy detachment, while also populating Starling with a full range of Southern small-town folk and true-crime obsessives, all of whom are harboring secrets of their own. Amoss shifts convincingly among them and delivers a tense performance that keeps listeners on edge throughout.
