Madariaga blends Spanish and English smoothly as the plot progresses, immersing listeners in the natural speech of bilingual communities. Characters and interactions are not as cohesive as in the first book, and the romance feels a little stunted, but the world-building in this sequel is just as fascinating as the first volume's.
