Sandra Brown's latest suspense brings a myriad of people together at the wrong place and the wrong time for a night that none of them will forget. Teenaged lovers and parents-to-be hold up a convenience store for money to run away. The situation gets out of control, however, when they end up taking hostages and the girl goes into labor. Luckily for them, one of the hostages is a doctor and another is investigative reporter Tiel McCoy. Graham masters each character, giving "Doc" and Tiel the level-headedness they need to get control of the situation. She keeps the pace moving swiftly, and the listener gets caught up with both the police tactics and the delivery of the baby. What a night!

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
