This soap opera has something for everyone. Michael, an ex-convict, returns to a sleepy Canadian community to resolve childhood issues. While nursing a rare, wounded falcon, he encounters a widow and her mute son. Narrator Dick Hill wonderfully captures the diverse human characters, but he's really at his best as he describes the thoughts and actions of the bird. To the author's credit, the falcon has her own persona, enhanced by Hill's narration. The listener dives, soars and feels the falcon's pain, thanks to the narrator. Listening to this complex tale is a pleasure, and Hill makes it even more so.

This is not a story about guns, but about blue pearls. Gerald Browne takes us to the Pacific Ocean and the world of pearl divers and natural gems and mixes in mystery, intrigue and suspense. Barry Bostwick portrays the characters in one voice, varying his intonation slightly for the Asian personalities. His reading style is very smooth, evidence of preparation and interest in the story. 18mm Blues is abridged well, collecting the important elements of the story. Unobtrusive music indicates the end of each side. Disappear into the mystery of the Far East and one of its most beautiful commodities.
